It is to the church of Philly, just as the gospel of Luke and Acts is to Theophilus, the book of Galatians to the church of Galatia, 1 Pet to the dispersed churches in Asia, Galatia etc. I think that the word of God applies to everyone who believes. The promise that was given to Abraham applied to ALL who lived by faith.

Short, but great post. I can't believe more people haven't commented on this post either. I am not a big fan of Obama, but then again, Bush didn't make me remotely proud as a Believer...however, you're right, God allows leaders over us and they have authority, whether we agree with them or not. That said, you've reminded me that I need to pray for our country's leaders, including Obama, so I pray you will soften his heart, that he will come to his senses Lord and I claim that you can influence and direct him in more ways than I can count!

Great article. The wife and I just completed a Dave Ramsey course on getting out of debt and budgeting. This article would make him proud, perhaps you could put a link in it to his material? I'm about to send the link to this post to my brother and sister-in-law, hoping it encourages them to make some changes as well. As a Christian, makes me smile to see good stuff like this site out there...will bookmark your site and be checking out the other posts. Thanks!

Agree with Fred, context is critical here. Keeping that in mind, Revelation 3:22 says ,"He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches". There is instruction for us here in these passages, but we need to be careful to remember historical context. Praise God
