I guess Jefferson: He kept us out of a horribly costly war with Europe (one we weren’t prepared to be in), he bought something like half the continenet (at a good deal), invested in this purchase by having some reputable dudes investigate it, tried to be honest with himself, others, help his fellow man, &c. As a president, he didn’t do too badly, but like most from that period, they were still figuing out how to balance the power of parties, and such.

I never did like him creating his “Jefferson Bible”, but I really more feel baddly for the Diests, then anything else. Just wish they could have seen and accepted that miracles are a part of His power & wisdom, beyond just His teachings.

There is also a story that Dorothy Parker, seated next to him at a dinner, said to him, “Mr. Coolidge, I’ve made a bet against a fellow who said it was impossible to get more than two words out of you.” He replied, “You lose.”

There are so many presidents who are extroverted, and it’s nice to have an introvert to look up to.

My real fav is Teddy Roosevelt. Shot in the chest before a speech, and decides to go through with it. Speaks for 90 minutes with a bullet lodged in his chest, bleeding the whole time. Amazing. The bullet was never removed. “but it takes more than that to kill a Bull Moose”
